Who is looking for an adorable and lovable cat or dog to make their family complete? The Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies have been saving and rehoming animals for almost 20 years. A new location was sorely needed so a new building was constructed in April 2010 on the north side of Mt. Carmel. The new building would not have been possible without overwhelming support from the community.

The Shelter Buddies group is a non-profit and works on donations alone. An Amazon wish list is available should anyone wish to donate needed supplies. In addition to local adoptions, the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies group partners with many other shelters and rescue organizations throughout Illinois to help find animals their forever homes. The Shelter Buddies also work with local veterinarians to ensure a successful spay and neuter program. Vouchers for spay and neuters are available to residents of Wabash County for a small fee.

The Shelter is staffed by a group of volunteers who have a passion for helping animals. There are several opportunities to volunteer such as walking dogs, cleaning crews, transportation drivers, and computer/social media work. You must be 16+ to volunteer or have a parent or guardian present.
